Abstract

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to explore menopause symptom and attitude toward the menopause, and to identify the correlation menopause symptoms and attitudes toward menopause in the community dwelling middle aged women.

Methods: This study utilized the descriptive correlational design using self-administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson"s correlation coefficient.

Results: The level of menopause symptom was slightly low and women¡¯s attitude toward the menopause was slightly negative. There were significant differences in menopause symptom according to educational level (F=3.76, p=.011), having health problem (t=-3.85, p=£¼.001), and use of hormone (t=-3.00, p=.003). Significant differences in the attitude toward menopause symptom were evident among the groups divided by subject"s age (F=3.97, p=.020). The relationship between menopause symptom and attitude toward menopause was a negative significant correlation (r=-.26).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, ¨ç healthcare professionals need to understand importance of women"s attitude toward menopause and ¨è the development of nursing strategies for menopause symptom management should be considered in nursing research as well as nursing practice.
